Hearst Castle - Morro Bay

What was at first conceived by William Randolph Hearst as a comfortable bungalow retreat on the family ranch became one of the most lavish and grand homes ever built on American soil. Under construction from 1919 till 1947 to house Hearst's vast art collection, and the model for Orson Wells' Xanadu in Citizen Kane, the "Ranch House," as Hearst liked to call it, had a guest list over the years that included world-famous celebrities, business tycoons, politicians, Prime Ministers and Presidents to rival that of any royal European castle. It is a must-see stop for anyone traveling up or down the California coast between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

On the way to San Simeon we'll pass along a chain of volcanic-plug buttes named the Nine Sisters, the most unique of which, Morro Rock, rises nearly 600 feet out of the ocean to guard over the entrance to her beautiful little harbor, Morro Bay.

This is a multi-day tour that begins in Los Angeles. It can be combined with some of the other tours we offer to create a wonderful, extended vacation.
